GirlBossing With Netflix

A few weeks ago, the cool dudes at Netflix Mena invited me to a lunch and brief of their new campaign. I figured that since I probably spend more time watching stuff on Netflix than doing anything else, it was an opportunity I shouldn't miss. And I was right.

They explained that they were running a campaign for Ramadan in the Middle East and North Africa, that would be kind of an ode to girlbosses all over this part of the world. I got to meet about thirty amazing, creative women from across the region. To call it 'inspiring' is a little bit of an understatement; being in a room with so many women who are doing their own thing felt almost magical.

We were each asked to choose our favorite female Netflix character and the next day we had individual shoots inspired by the characters we chose. I chose Jessica Jones. As someone who has battled with mental health issues, I am really inspired by how she perseveres, no matter what she's been through. You can find out more about why I chose Jessica Jones and more on the shoot on their website, www.doorha-botoula.com (she's the lead). Plus, you'll get to meet all of the ridiculously talented women that were part of the campaign.

It was super weird for me to be in front of the camera instead of behind the scenes, but the team at Netflix were super chill and the glam team were awesome, so that made it a little easier!

(Lol, I am so awkward when I'm 'serious posing'!) Here's the finished photo, but make sure you check out the website for more stuff!

I thought it would be cool to do a makeup look inspired by Jessica Jones. Even though she doesn't really wear any makeup, she always looks flawless, and I thought it would be a perfect look for the summer.

(Still trying to rock a serious face!) And these are the products I used, a lot of them are my favorite waterproof summer products (a definite must in this part of the world)

Jane Iredale PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation - This stuff is great in the summer, especially if you're like me and don't like a ton of coverage. It covers just enough and provides SPF 20 (though I layer on top of my regular sunscreen). And it lasts, even if you get super sweaty!

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion - This is just my favorite, any time of the year. My lids get pretty greasy and this keeps makeup on from dusk till dawn (and even after you pass out and wake up for brunch)

MAC Technikol Liner Graph Black - I've been using this stuff for years. It's the only eye pencil that doesn't melt on me and lasts on my water line. In this picture, I applied it to my lash line and smudged with a soft brush.

NARS Orgasm/Laguna Duo - Another product I've used for years, these two give me just enough color to look glowy, but not overly sweaty, in the summer heat.

Wunderbrow in Jet Black - Krysten Ritter has gorgeous, full brows, and this is what I use when I want to give my much-sparser brows a little oomph. Once you apply this stuff, those brows aren't going anywhere! (I learned that the hard way)

Carmex Lipbalm with SPF - Carmex is hands down my favorite lip balm. I use it on myself and on clients all the time and I love the one with SPF because my lips tend to burn easily.

Urban Decay Naked Lipliner - Jessica Jones pretty much always has a lovely nude lip going on. I used this liner (also waterproof!) on my bare lips then topped it off with Carmex for a soft, pillowy effect.

Urban Decay Perversion Waterproof Eye Pen - Can you tell that I really dig UD products? They last so well in the heat. I didn't use this liner for this look but I included it because I just love how dark it is and how easy it is to use.

And that's it! Don't forget to check out the website (http://www.doorha-botoula.com/#cast) and let me know what you think of the shoot and this look!
