FOTD Starring Philosophy BB Cream

It is starting to seem like the hunt for a good BB cream is almost as hard as the hunt for a good foundation. Despite the fact that there are so many on the market now, I haven't been able to find the perfect one for my skin. Add that to the fact that darker shades are often hard to find here in general (get it together, guys!) and it's just frustrating.

So when I was sent some of the Philosophy's new Be Your Best BB cream, I wasn't totally sure if the shade would work on me. Nevertheless, I gave it a go. I wore it while running errands yesterday. I woke up late (after an awful scratching-my-eye-with-my-duvet-corner incident) and had to run to the mall to pick up a helmet and mouth guard for roller derby practice. I was only going to the mall near my house, so I decided to keep things low key. Here's my four product face.

I'd say this is pretty much my every day look, except that my every day look requires even less makeup than this!

I'm wearing:

Philosophy Be Your Best BB Cream in Medium
Bobbi Brown Concealer Duo in Honey
MAC Sheertone Shimmer Blush in Peach Twist
Revlon Lip Butter in Sweet Tart

Unsurprisingly, Philosophy's venture into the world of BB cream is a really good effort. The texture of the cream isn't greasy at all, the coverage is great and it feels fantastic on my skin. The only issue is that it only comes in two shades, light and medium, and I really feel like even the medium shade was pushing it on my NC42 skin tone. I think that I can just get away with it with a lot of blending, but even in this picture I feel like my skin looks a tiny bit gray.

Even Bowie wants to get on the BB train!

Again, apart from the shade issue, this BB cream is pretty awesome stuff. You even need to layer it over moisturizer if you have dry skin, so that should be an indication of how well it works on oilier skin. It also has an SPF 30 pa+++ (ah, the good stuff!) as well as antioxidants and you can wear it on it's own or as a base for your other makeup. If that's not enough, it also contains glycyrrhiza glabra root
extract, a lightening agent for dark spots and ascorbic acid, a vitamin c derivative with super anti-aging powers.

I am absolutely in love with this texture and I feel like this is one of the best BB creams I've tried in terms of how the product wears and what it does. I just really, really wish there were more shades! If your skin tone is lighter than mine then  you're definitely going to want to give this a go!

Happy Tuesday, folks!

*Philosophy Be Your Best BB Cream was sent to me as a PR sample.

  1. See, I have just the opposite problem. Here in Germany it's almost impossible to find a light shade that's affordable. Even the shade you got there would be far too dark for me as it is slightly too light for you. I guess the wide range in between light and dark is the margin the firms make their profits with...I so hope 2013 will change that, but I guess they're making just enough money to keep things the way they are. Bobbi Brown for example just killed the lightest foundation shade (Alabaster) in Germany because it didn't sell was a sad day for all women who actually want a fitting shade instead of the fake-tan look that's being promoted here nonstop :(

  2. Oh that sucks :( Over here everyone wants to be lighter so none of the drugstore brands have darker shades. I don't know why people can't accept the way they are, these brands are just making it even harder!

  3. well it sounds promising but we dont get it in Pakistan =( and yes Aseya even here people wants to be lighter =(

  4. Looks like a really nice texture. The only BB cream I've used is from Missha, ordered it on eBay but I almost ran out of it, so it's time to buy a new one :)
You are really pretty in this picture. I mean you are always pretty :)

  5. You look lovely. The Philosophy BB cream sounds great! I've been really liking using BB cream on good skin days. x

  6. Thanks Joy! Yeah, I feel like BB is a great answer to low-maintenance day. I just need to find the one for me!

  7. Aww thanks! I've heard the one from Missha is amazing! We used to have the stores here, but they recently closed so I didn't get a chance to try them out :(

  8. Hmm my comment didn't post :( I think wanting to be lighter is a regional thing! Do you get Philosophy at all?

Thank you for leaving a comment! :)
