My cat Bowie turned 3 yesterday! :) I thought I'd take this opportunity to let out my not-so-inner crazy cat lady!
Anyway this is a long post so I'm going to end it and just put up some pictures of the birthday boy :)
My handsome kitty! He was originally called "Fluffy", but doesn't he just look like a "Bowie"? :)
Bowie is my Turkish cat. I'm not 100% sure whether he is a Turkish Angora or a Turkish Van, but I'm leaning towards Van because he looks more like one of them and he has the same personality traits that they are known for. He's just the sweetest, most affectionate cat I've ever seen. He really does think he is a dog. He loves to chase around balls and will even fetch sometimes, sits on my lap when I'm sitting down, loves company and he is very talkative! He yells at me sometimes when I come home late at night. He's also a bit of a mama's boy, he likes to follow me around the house and starts to whine when he can't find me.
Bowie's Story:
Bowie is a "rescue cat". A girl I know found him one day when she was driving to work. There was a car stopped on the side of the road, and the driver was placing a basket on the ground. She saw a cat jump out of the basket and realized that the driver was abandoning it. She got out of her car, picked up the poor petrified cat and started yelling at the driver. She said that she had never seen a cat so scared and that Bowie was trying to get back into the car and had no idea what was going on.
As she was leaving, the driver came after her and gave her all of Bowie's documents, including his vaccination card and microchip certification. He was just six months old.
One of the first pictures I took of him. He was so small back then!! He is definitely a big cat now!
She asked me if I wanted the cat, and I wasn't sure at the time because I was just leaving my job and was going on vacation soon. I kind of wanted a pet though, so I agreed to meet the cat. I went to meet them at the vet (she wanted to give him a check up) and it was pretty much love at first sight! Even the vet was confused as to why someone wouldn't want him. She said that he was a pure breed (we thought he was a chinchilla at the time), and obviously someone had spent a lot of money on him. He's also so obedient and good natured, it just didn't make sense. She said that if my friend hadn't found him, he probably would have died.
Hiding under my dresser
I took him home that night. He was whining in his basket so I popped it open a bit and he climbed onto my lap and just sat there and purred (I have never done that since that time as I realize how dangerous that is!) I brought him home and it took him a few days to get used to things, but he was soon walking around the house like he owned it!
Trying to take a nap, after a presumably long day!
Anyway, that's how I came to be a Cat Mama. Bowie is the first cat I've ever had. I was very much a dog person. Luckily, I have a cat who thinks he is a dog! Whenever I get home from vacation, he can hear my voice from downstairs and starts meowing like crazy! We're a perfect match because I've finally found something as emotionally needy as I am! :)
Anyway this is a long post so I'm going to end it and just put up some pictures of the birthday boy :)
Snuggle Bug
Doing his best superman impression. Check out how long he is!
Is she STILL taking pictures of me? *face palm*
Stuffing himself onto one of his Christmas presents.
Practicing yoga on the bed
Just waking up from his evening nap
Rolling around on top of his scratching post

He's sooooo cute! I can't believe someone would abandon him, he was lucky to be rescued! The Superman photo just made me LOL in the office! My cat does the same thing, stretches himself out so long! Love all of the photos :)
ReplyDeleteaww thanks! You should totally post pictures of your cat! I shall declare this week 'Crazy Cat Lady Week!' hehe
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Bowie! He's such a gorgeous cat, and he sounds like a lot of fun too!
ReplyDeletePeople who abandon animals like that make me so, so angry. It's so selfish and there's just no excuse for it. Bowie was lucky that your friend found him, and even luckier that he got to come and live with you :D xx
Heheh thanks Hannah! He's a cutie :)
ReplyDeleteI know! I just don't understand how anyone can just abandon an animal! It's so easy to take them to a shelter, instead of leaving it on the side of the road (probably to die) The only reasoning I have is that this was the only way he would have ended up with me.
happy birthday bowie! :)
ReplyDeletewhat a cutie xxx

Shame he isnt going on holiday with you to the UK as I would have to steal him off you hehe lol. Happy Birthday Bowie lots of kisses and cuddles from me x x x

heheh thank you Miss LV! He's sleeping on an empty shelf in my bookcase right now (he thinks he owns the house haha) I would totally love to bring him with me if I could! I'll give him loads of birthday cuddles from you :)
ReplyDeletesuch a horrible person to abandon him!! But in a way it was a good thing because now he gets to be with you which is far better than his previous crappy owner :) happy birthday bowie boy :) xxx
ReplyDeleteI've always been a dog person but Bowie is the cutest cat I've seen! He's so regal looking. I'm glad he found you and ended up with someone who loves him :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Bowie!!!
ReplyDeleteKisses, Melanie
Aww thanks Adrienne. Yep, he definitely found a loving home :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Bug!! That's so sweet of you to say. He just loves to pose and show off! hehe
Thank you Melanie!! :)
Ah one of my cats does the superman too haha! I am so glad you gave Bowie a good home. He is adorable.
ReplyDeleteM - Even Artichokes Have Hearts ♥
Aw, he's such a lovely cat! I can't imagine how anyone would want to throw him away.
ReplyDeleteEven at the lowest points when my cats have been completely awful & destructive, & I thought that I couldn't deal with them, I have never contemplated giving them back. I've always thought that if I got cats, I would keep them until they were little old men :D
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww (out of breath pause for air.. inhale)wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
ReplyDeleteHe is tooooo cute. Huggles.xx
Hehehe, H, I often look at him and just wonder what happened. He's literally the best behaved cat, too. He listens to me when I tell him to stop doing something (and sometimes meows back like 'don't tell me what to do!' haha) He will definitely be with me until he's old and gray (if cats do that, I have no idea!)
ReplyDeletehahahaha Aisha! :) Thanks. That's my baby! hehe :)
I think they do - they get slower, slimmer, sleepier & slightly grey!
ReplyDeleteawww! That's so cute that they get a little gray. I don't want my little man to get old though :(
ReplyDeleteAwww, what a wonderful story!! Bowie looks like such a sweetie! The snuggle bug & face palk pics are priceless :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on cats who have dog-like personalities. My cat is very vocal and affectionate, and sniffs everything in sight, just like a dog would.
Aww hehe thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, cats with dog personalties are the best! It's like the best of both worlds!! :)
what a cutie !
ReplyDeleteAww thank you!! :)
ReplyDeleteHey M! Sorry, i don't know why I just found your comment now!! The superman is soo cute! They look so relaxed like that, too hahaha :)

ReplyDeleteI will write Arabic coz my English not very well and I hob you can read Arabic
Hi Dalida! (Sorry you might have to Google Translate this!) Thank you for your comment!Micho looks just like my cat!! That is so strange! I am going to find some more information about Arabian Cats, that is very interesting, thank you for sharing.
