Some Stuff I Bought Today

This month's issue of Glamour magazine - I love reading fashion and beauty magazines, but foreign ones are so expensive. This one was 32 dirhams (approximately 9 us dollars) and it was one of the cheaper American ones! I've been really into Glamour and Elle recently, I love that they balance out the fashion and beauty with some actual articles!

Perfectil Skin, Hair & Nails Vitamins - (44 dirhams) -  I think I'm going bald! Well, not really. But I have noticed a significant difference in the thickness of my hair and shine as well. I haven't taken my biotin lately (which I take purely for growth) but I wanted to add something in to help nourish my hair and nails from the inside.

Boots Botanics Facial Brush - (30 dirhams) - I saw this before, when I was looking for a poor (wo)man's Clarisonic alternative. I thought it looked a bit too harsh to be used on my face, but then read a glowing review by Makeup Savvy and decided to give it a go. It really is very soft! I'm going to use it for about a week and let you guys know how it goes!

17 Wild Curls Mascara - (25 dirhams) - I have been reading lots of positive reviews on this all over the web and I keep seeing it but never seemed to pick it up. Plus, how cute is the tube? Metallic AND animal print? Oh hells yeah!

I also bought some cat food and cat treats for Bowie, but I'm trying to keep the 'Crazy Cat Lady' posts to a minimum. I will say that if you have a long haired cat prone to hair balls, you should try Royal Canin's Intense Hairball Elimination cat food. It's a bit expensive, but my cat has a really sensitive digestive system. Sometimes his hairballs get stuck and he ends up with a tummy infection. The vet recommended this and it's really helped him!

My Bowie! (And my super messy room! Sorry!)

Ok Fine! I AM a crazy cat lady!!! hehehe

Everyone ready for the weekend? My mom and sister fly back from the states tonight. I've missed them so much!! Especially my sister. Really missed gossiping with her. :(

  3. There's a Glamour online edition as well on my iPhone it shows its priced at $4 USD. I'm tempted to purchase, but I love carrying around actual magazines in my bag just in case I get bored when I'm out somewhere.

  4. I really like the Glamour website, I read it all the time. Sometimes I feel like buying some magazines are pointless because everything is on their websites. But you just can't beat all the colors and being able to flip pages and stuff. I love magazines :)

  5. I want your US version of Glamour! I bought the UK version the other day but it had Abby Clancy (WAG) on the cover; I much prefer Kim Kardashian!

I think I'll follow suit and get a manual facial brush too - even if I could afford the Clarisonic, I don't think I could justify the price!

  7. Joy, one of the good things about Dubai is that we get the UK and the US versions of the magazines. I really like the American ones, but sometimes I read the UK ones (and other ones like Company) because we have so many British shops, so it's easier to find the things that are listed.

I just tried the brush tonight, it's great! Made my skin so soft! :)

Alicia, doesn't she look pretty in the photos? I'm going to try out the mascara this week so I'll make a post :)

  9. Your cat is so adorable. I actually got a clarisonic for Christmas and am thinking a cheaper version or hand held would have done the same thing. Your skin does get super clean though. I was looking at that magazine cover in the store today... it doesn't really look like Kim Kardashian, does it? xo

  11. Miss LV - It's OK. We can bond over how sad we are that way! hehe

Debby - Thanks! And thanks for letting us know about the Clarisonic. They're really being pushed every where so it's nice to hear an honest review! I know!! I think they airbrushed her a little to get her 'old face'. She looks so much better like that.

Barbie - Thanks for reading! Her makeup does look great, I love how it's still sultry but toned down. I don't really mind paying that much for the magazines, but it frustrates me because I know how cheap they are in the states! Sometimes they go up to $15!

  12. Wild Curls mascara is really good! Mine was a little watery at first, but after a week I loved it.

Bowie is so so cute! I find it difficult to not make too many cat lady posts too :)

That's good about the mascara! I'm going to try it out tonight.

  14. Bowie is such a cutie!! From one cat lady to another, I never get sick of seeing pictures of other people's adorable kitties.

I like ELLE a lot too, though I liked it a bit better before Joe Zee become the Creative Director. Do you like Marie Claire at all? That's probably my 2nd favorite magazine, along with Glamour.

  15. If you can get your hands on the UK Glamoure issues then you'd love them! I prefer the uk edition more hehe. I use perfectil and i liked how healthy it made me look. But I only noticed a difference 3-6 months after using it.
I stopped using it though because i wanted to only focus on my hair as i want it to grow longer, i got the Wellwoman Tricologic vitamins which help in maintaining healthy haur growth, stength and condition. I got it from the Boots in Dubail Mall and it retails for 225 dirhams.

  17. I'm so behind in my magazines1 I have a huge stack of unread ones -_- Glamour and Cosmopolitan are my favorite but you are right, they are so expensive (I live in Canada).

I also need a facial brush!

  18. MatryoshkaDoll - Thanks! I do like Marie Claire. I always grab one when I'm flying because there's so much to read!

The Dollymix Diaries - I do have a couple issues of the UK Glamour, but I think I prefer the American one (I'm slightly biased though!) I'm going to look up the Wellwoman vitamins. I've been taking plain biotin (5,000mcgs a day) and I do notice a difference in my growth. My hair usually grows pretty fast anyway, but it slows down during the winter.

    Thanks Lola!

Gaby - I totally recommend the brush (so far! haha) I really like it! And isn't it SOO annoying about the costs? I'm always like 'well..I can either get a couple magazines or a pair of shoes...' hehe

  21. I used to take the Perfectil tablets but wasn't sure they made much of a difference. Hope they work better for you!

  22. Oh really? I keep reading mixed reviews. They're cheaper than a lot of the other ones at the Pharmacy, so I think I'm just going to try and take them for a couple of months. No harm in that and fingers crossed, I'll see a difference (even if it's all in my head! haha)

  24. The mascara was actually pretty good, but it didn't "wow" me. I think it's great if you want a boost for day time, but at night I'd stick to my maybelline falsies. I need to do a review! hehe thanks for reminding me :)

  27. does Biotin really aid in hair growth ?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yes, it's great for hair growth! But you have to be careful because too much can make you grow extra hair on your face and body as well. You can google it for better info :)
