Shellac Manicure Review - Week One

It's been one week since I've had my CND Shellac manicure, so I wanted to do a quick review for you guys!

On the second day, I noticed a previously unseen bubble on my thumb. I foolishly picked at it and now there's a tiny little hole. Luckily, it isn't very noticeable. I was afraid that picking it would cause the polish to peel off the whole nail, but that hasn't happened.

All in all, I'm am VERY impressed! The polish is still as shiny and vibrant as it was a week ago. I kept doing things and thinking that I'd chipped the polish, but nope. It was perfectly fine! I don't really do any housework, but I do wash my hands quite a bit and I was in the pool a lot this week, so my nails still got tested. I like the Shellac because I don't have to worry about my nail polish chipping because of the water.

CND Shellac Manicure - Tropix

As you can see, there is quite a bit of regrowth at the base of my nails. Sometimes when I paint my nails I can actually get up to a week's worth of wear, but I never get this much growth! I think maybe the extra gel is protecting my nails and making them grow faster? Otherwise, it might be that the vitamins I've been taking finally decided to kick in! Either way, I'm pretty gosh darn pleased.

The only thing is that I'm not a fan of that gap between the polish and my cuticles. It's not bad enough that I want to take it off right now, but I'm not sure how I will be able to last two weeks. I'm going to just have to power through it! All in the name of prettier nails and research!

I would totally recommend this for holidays or special occasions. At first, I didn't think it would be a good idea for a holiday, in case it chips and you are unable to find a salon to fix it. However, after wearing the polish for a week, I can honestly say that I don't see any major problems happening and I would probably get them done for a short holiday.

Shellac manicures are supposed to last for two weeks, so I will write up another review in seven days. I think I'm going to try and remove them at home, so I will also take some pictures and write about my experience with that.

I have to say, I am still totally loving this color! Oh and guess who hasn't bitten her fingernails once this week? This girl! hehe

  2. That looks pretty good for a week's wear! I don't mind the gap too much but I hate when my polish starts wearing off at the tip and yours look fine. I think I'm going to have to investigate this whole shellac thing further :D

  3. Thanks Onna!

Bug, it really isn't bad. I didn't notice any wearing off at the tip, but I just had a look and I can see some very slight, hardly noticeable shrinkage. I do think it's a great way to grow out your nails without having to get gel overlays done.

  6. Lovely colour! Your hands look so groomed!
For holidays, I usually go for gel overlays. That could last me up to 4 weeks x

  7. Thanks Katrina :) I do like the way overlays look, but I get addicted to gels too easily! It's like a vicious cycle!

  10. Hi Sarah! This is by CND, it's one of their shellac polishes, the gel-polish hybrid ones. The shade is called Tropix. I don't know if it's available for sale because you need to use it with a uv lamp, but you can look on ebay! I've seen a few similar polish shades, Sephora's Passion and Nailstation's Happy Hour are really similar :) Thanks for stopping by!

  12. Thanks! It's gorgeous, isn't it? I'm totally going to be wearing shades like this all summer! I can't believe I put off wearing them for so long because I was afraid they clashed with my skin tone! I think they look great on everyone!
